If ever there was a reason for Luke Branquinho to shake his booty at the Thomas & Mack Center, this was it.

Branquinho – who routinely performs the celebration dance in the arena following fast times – won his third world title and first since 2008. He came out on top in the pivotal average race after a 4.7-second run that earned a sixth-place check in front of 17,720 fans during Round 10 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo on Saturday.

TULSA, Okla. – Horses could soon be butchered in the U.S. for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections, and activists say slaughterhouses could be up and running in as little as a month.

DOL Seeks To Limit/Control Child Labor

The Department of Labor (DOL) has proposed new child labor regulations applicable to agriculture. The proposed rule would place new limits on the work “hired farm workers” under 16 and in some cases 18 would be allowed to do and could impact horse farms, ranches and auctions that employ young people who work with horses. The proposed new rules would not apply to young people working on farms and ranches owned or operated by their parents. According to the American Horse Council, the comment period on this proposal has been extended from the original date of Nov. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2011.

Owner of Susanville Horse Ranch Charged with Animal Cruelty

A Lassen County man is charged with cruelty to animals after sheriff's deputies found the remains of approximately 28 horses and three dogs on the man's property at Whispering Pines Ranch on Highway 36 in Susanville California.

According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff's Office, the animal remains were found decomposed, ranging from recent to many years old.

Everybody has a weakness. Popeye had his spinach. Elvis had his fried banana-and-peanut butter sandwiches. Homer Simpson has his doughnuts. (“Mmmmm!”) And even AQHA Superhorses have their cravings.

The AQHA Superhorse award is the equivalent of the most-valuable-player award at the AQHA World Championship Show. These guys are the best of the best. And in reviewing The American Quarter Horse Journal’s coverage of these top horses, one trend becomes clear: These horses, of course, have an appetite for victory, but they also have some pretty odd hankerings when it comes to their snacks.
