The 10th Annual Arabian and Half-Arabian Reining Horse Futurities run February 14 - 28, 2013 at West World of Scottsdale during the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. Founded in 1998, the Arabian Reining Horse Association (ARHA) promotes the natural athletic abilities and versatility of Arabian and Half Arabian horses. This event pays some $175,000 in prize monies, plus saddles, trophies and buckles to Futurity winners.

How To Register an Older Horse

AQHA makes an attempt to encourage early foal registration by setting weanling fees low. If you have a horse that is aged and unregistered, it can seem like quite a feat, financially and otherwise, to file the paperwork. AQHA has introduced a registration special that will lighten the load. Instead of paying $550 for a 36-month-old horse and $1,000 for horses that are 48 months old or older, you only pay $300 from 36 months on. The older horse registration special runs through December 31, 2012. There has never been a better opportunity to get the inhabitants of your pasture registered with AQHA.

From the Pasture to the Show Pen

What is a good ranch pleasure horse? That’s a question people have been asking around the American Quarter Horse community since the addition of the new AQHA class. Right now, nobody knows for sure. The fun part, though, is there are also a lot of people entering to see whether they’ve got one, including me. As a youth, I showed in all-around events and then transitioned to working cow horse. I showed in horsemanship and reining on the varsity level in college, and then recently returned to the horse show world with a Versatility Ranch/working cow horse as a young amateur. Since my husband and I ranch for a living, that’s the kind of horse that most appealed to me.

Check Your Tires

The leading factor in roadside emergencies is tires. Tires can lose their footing long before they’re worn out. Tests conducted by Consumer Reports show that tread can give up a significant amount of grip when it’s still at the halfway point.
